Highlighting Stigma

The West Virginia Department of Human Services’ Bureau for Behavioral Health (BBH) would like to share the following information from West Virginia Bureau for Public Health (BPH) Violence and Injury Prevention Program:

From Judgement to Understanding:

Overcoming Stigma in Substance Use Disorder Care and Healthcare Systems

We have a new resource that is designed to help reduce that healthcare bias against people who use drugs. OMCFH applied Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) funding to develop a CME program we are excited to launch soon.

In West Virginia, clinicians play a pivotal role in addressing the ongoing opioid crisis and supporting patients with substance use disorders (SUD). The WVU School of Pharmacy’s Rational Drug Therapy Program, in collaboration with the WV Violence and Injury Prevention Program, created a 2-hour educational program for clinicians that aims to enhance healthcare professionals’ ability to provide compassionate, stigma-free care to patients struggling with substance use disorder.

Please view a preview of the program here and more information regarding the course here.

This course will be released in the near future with an anticipated release date of 03/01/2025.  Feel free to enroll today here, so that we can keep you informed of updates!

We look forward to undergoing this endeavor together!
